1 Announcing Cirq: An Open Source Framework for NISQ Algorithms
Cirq is focused on near-term questions and helping researchers understand whether NISQ quantum computers are capable of solving computational problems of practical importance. Cirq is licensed under Apache 2, and is free to be modified or embedded in any commercial or open source package. We are also announcing the release of OpenFermion- Cirq, an example of a Cirq based application enabling near-term algorithms. OpenFermion is a platform for developing quantum algorithms for chemistry problems, and OpenFermion-Cirq is an open source library which compiles quantum simulation algorithms to Cirq.

EU-funded research is leading the way in developing innovative solutions to improve animal health in pig and poultry farming.

3 Embracing Openness to Power Future Network Services
Joining the LFN now complements Deutsche Telekom’s embrace of open source software as a key technology in our architectural vision for future networks. The work in ONAP, together with our activities in ETSI-ZSM, will lead the industry towards a fully automated network and service management. With Moore’s Law flattening out, we see a strong trend in the industry towards the disaggregation of hardware and software.
4 Kristala Prather: Advancing energy-efficient biochemistry
Using genetic engineering, Prather and her team can manipulate the genes of microbes to control the kind and quantity of products they produce. As the Arthur D. Little Professor of Chemical Engineering at MIT, she conducts research that ties together the fields of energy, biology, and chemistry. Such research requires expertise in chemical engineering, biological engineering, and genetics. Kristala Jones Prather will be the first person to tell you the difference between science and engineering.

6 Election Hacking Gets Real with Mueller Indictment
CDT is working to get actionable advice and tools directly into the hands of local election officials, so pay attention to this space in coming weeks and months. Election officials are a gateway to potentially millions of voter records and, more importantly, cast votes. Several state and local websites and their election officials were targeted using similar attacks. Remove that data so that it can be weaponized through separate information campaigns. Over 300 individuals affiliated with the Democratic party or campaign were targeted in a spearphishing campaign – including Clinton campaign chairman John Podesta.

8 AWS AppSync releases enhanced no-code GraphQL API builder, HTTP resolvers, and new built-in scalar types
AWS AppSync has released a new flow for provisioning a GraphQL endpoint. Customers can now model logical types and automatically create resolvers along with Amazon DynamoDB tables without needing to first write a GraphQL schema. The process includes a new query and filtering system that allows logical comparisons (greater than, contains, etc.) against fields in a schema without requiring any coding from the developer.
